Instant Pot Basmati Rice
What I love most about cooking basmati rice in Instant Pot (Pressure cooker) is that it is super QUICK and always perfectly cooked.
It is stress-free cooking. Throw all the ingredients in instant pot and forget. You won’t wait for the water to boil or keep an eye on rice like you do when cooking it in a regular pot.
Yes, Instant pot is a bulky kitchen equipment, but it is a must have one if you are a rice person. I cook rice 2-3 times per week and it always turns out to be Perfect!
Instant Pot Basmati Rice 2 cups
For a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), I usually use 2 cups of Basmati rice. You can cook more rice, but consider that for every cup of rice you will need one cup of water. You can customize the recipe and cook as much or as little rice as you wish.
What is the Ratio of Rice to Water in Instant Pot?
The ratio is 1:1 as I've mentioned above.
- 1 cup basmati rice+ 1 cup water
- 2 cups basmati rice+ 2 cups water
- 3 cups basmati rice+ 3 cups water
- 4 cups basmati rice+ 4 cups water
The recipe calls for ghee, peppercorns, black cardamom and fresh herbs. These spices add so much flavor and ghee (clarified butter) makes rice buttery and not dry. But, you can leave these ingredients out for just plain fluffy rice.
How to cook Basmati Rice in Instant Pot?
I hate mushy and sticky rice. I have been experimenting with basmati rice and my Instant pot for a while to get perfect fluffy and separate rice. This is what I found:
- The ratio of rice to water is the key to success. You will need to wash rice before cooking and drain really well for the best results.
- Use high quality basmati rice.
Mix all the ingredients in instant pot, close the lid, chose “pressure cook” mode and set time for 4 minutes. Actually it is super easy!
WHAT GOES WELL WITH BASMATI RICE?
Serve this Instant Pot Basmati rice Chicken Stroganoff, Chicken Meatballs, Creamy Dijon Chicken, Creamy and Cheesy Chicken Meatballs, Smoky Cilantro Lime Chicken, Black pepper Chicken, Chicken Fritters or Steamed broccoli, Cheesy Roasted Asparagus or Stir fry veggies. Options are endless.
