What is a Travis Scott Burger?

What could be cooler than having a burger named after you? Well, if you ask superstar rapper Travis Scott, thereโ€™s not much. When Scott announced his latest collab – with fast food superchain McDonaldโ€™s – fans flocked to their local Mickey Deeโ€™s in droves. The burger sold faster than McDonaldโ€™s could make it, all thanks to hip-hopโ€™s biggest name. With this recipe, you wonโ€™t have to miss out! Weโ€™re giving you all the tricks youโ€™ll need to eat like Travis Scott in the comfort of your own home. You see, the world-famous rapper loves the Quarter Pounder, a McDonaldโ€™s menu mainstay, with his favorite toppings. Itโ€™s fresh beef, 2 slices of melted cheese, mustard, ketchup, pickles, onions and lettuce, served with a side of Sprite, fries, and barbecue sauce for dipping. Interested?

Ingredients and Substitutes

Ground beef: Of course the star ingredient here is a quarter-pound beef patty. Youโ€™ll need ground beef, of course, and we recommend an 80/20 lean to fat ratio (80% lean, 20% fat). This provides the most flavor and the best burger texture. Itโ€™s lean enough not to be oily or greasy, but fatty enough to prevent the burger from drying out.

Salt and Pepper: You donโ€™t want to overdo the seasoning here. Use salt and black pepper to season your beef for the classic McDonaldโ€™s taste. If you can believe it, this simple seasoning is all the burger chain uses to season their patties.

Sesame Seeds Burger Buns: Whatโ€™s a burger without a bun? Our favorite buns for this recipe are sesame seed burger buns, which add plenty of texture and flavor to your burger. McDonaldโ€™s actually uses sesame seed buns for their burgers, but you can always try another type of bun if you like. Milk buns and brioche buns have become trendy in recent years, so why not try one of those?

Butter: It is a secret hero to many dishes, and this is no exception. Soften your butter at room temperature and spread it across your buns before cooking. This gives them a nice savory flavor and provides that crispy burger finish we all know and love.

Cheddar Cheese: Of course, you canโ€™t have a cheeseburger without cheese. The classic all-American burger cheese is, of course, cheddar, and a nice sharp cheddar will truly elevate your Travis Scott burger. It melts easily and nicely complements the beefy, robust flavor of your patty. You can use any easy-melting cheese of your choice, depending on your preferred flavor profile. Avoid cheeses that are too hard for this recipe, however, as they donโ€™t melt as easily. Melted cheese is key to a great burger.

Bacon: Add some bacon strips to this burger to really help take it to the next level. Thereโ€™s just something about the pairing of cheese and bacon that sets your taste buds alight with delight.

Lettuce, onion, and pickle slices: This isnโ€™t exactly the worldโ€™s healthiest meal, but we need to include some plants. Lettuce, onion, and pickle slices are what Travis Scott likes on his burger, so thatโ€™s what weโ€™re including here. Trust us, the burger just isnโ€™t the same without them, although picky eaters can leave them out if absolutely necessary.

Ketchup and Mustard: Travis Scott likes his burgers with ketchup and mustard. You can get these sauces pretty much anywhere, and we recommend American mustard over other kinds. You could always try using other mustards, but the heat of some European mustards will overwhelm the otherwise delicious taste of this burger.

French fries, sprite, and barbeque sauce for servings: For sides, of course, weโ€™re going with the McDonaldโ€™s classic. French fries, Sprite, and barbecue sauce to dip your fries in. This is the full Travis Scott experience, just the way the rapper likes his meals, so why not give it a go?

How to make Travis Scott Burger

  • Preparation will save you a ton of time and effort. Prepare your buns and toppings before you even start cooking your patties, and the burgers will come together easily. No sense in wasting time, particularly when youโ€™ve got a hot burger ready to be eaten.
  • Use a high-quality beef, preferably chuck, with about 20% fat. This is the sweet spot for burger patties, fatty enough to taste great without leaking into the burger.
  • Shape your patties so theyโ€™re just a little wider than the bun. About half an inch should do the trick. This way, theyโ€™ll be perfectly proportioned to go inside the bun once theyโ€™re cooked, as the patties should lose a little bit of mass as they cook.
  • Season your patties before you cook them. Crack a little bit of salt and pepper over the patties just before you start to cooking. Salt can actually change the structure of the proteins in your beef, toughening the burger, if you salt it prior to forming the patties.

One chefโ€™s secret to ensure an evenly cooked patty: make a thumbprint indentation in the center of each patty before you cook it. This helps the patties to retain their shape while cooking over high heat.

  • Do not press down on the burger! Many an amateur cook has made the mistake of assuming that the resulting sizzle sound means the burger cooks better, but thatโ€™s actually the sound of juices escaping the patty. They land on the skillet and evaporate. These juices are what gives your burger all its taste and texture, and you want them to stay put in the patty, not sizzling away on the pan. Also, make sure to get a good sear on your burger before flipping to seal those juices in the burger and get the best flavor. Itโ€™s a good idea to let your patty stand for just a couple of minutes before eating as well to allow these juices to settle in the beef.
  • Ground beef should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees F before eating. Anything lower risks food poisoning, and trust us, you donโ€™t want your burger with that particular side dish. We recommend using an instant-read meat thermometer to ensure the perfectly cooked burger every single time.
  • Spread about 1/2 tablespoon butter on each bun and toast on a grill or  skillet until golden brown.
  • Place the bottom bun on the cutting board or plate. Top with a slice of cheddar cheese, cheesy patty, bacon, onions, pickles and lettuce.
  • Spread ketchup and mustard on the top bun.
  • Place the top bun on top of the toppings.
  • Serve immediately hot with French fries, sprite and barbecue sauce. Enjoy!

The Best Burger Buns

We like to use sesame seeds hamburger buns because they are very soft and fluffy, and taste like McDonaldโ€™s buns. We recommend to toast them before assembling burgers.

What is Quarter Pounder?

It is a famous McDonaldโ€™s hamburger that contains a 4 oz (a quarter of a pound) beef patty. McDonaldโ€™s introduced this term back in 1971 for their classic burger.

Ingredients

For the Burger:

  • 1 lb 500 grams ground chuck beef, 80 % lean and 20 % fat
  • Salt and pepper, as needed

For the Buns:

  • 4 sesame seed hamburger buns, or burger buns
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

For the Toppings:

  • 8 slices medium cheddar cheese
  • 4 bacon strips
  • 1/2 bunch green leaf lettuce
  • 1/2 white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup dill pickle slices
  • Ketchup, as needed
  • American mustard, as needed

For Servings ( optional):

  • French fries
  • Sprite
  • Barbecue sauce

Instructions

  • Toppings: Wash the lettuce and slice the onion.ย  Cook the bacon strips in a skillet until crisp. Cut them into thinner strips if you wish.
  • Burger: Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape patties about 1/2 inch thick. Try to make them slightly wider than the burger buns. Season the patties with salt and pepper on both sides.
  • Heat grill or skillet over medium high heat. Spay it with a cooking oil spray. Place the patties on the grill ( or skillet) and cook for about 8 minutes, 4 minutes per side. The internal temperature should reach 160หšF |71หšC.
  • In the last 1-2 minutes, top patties with cheddar cheese, 1 slice per patty. Transfer to a plate and cover to keep warm.
  • Burger buns: Spread about 1/2 tablespoon butter on each bun and toast on a grill orย  skillet until golden brown.
  • Assembling:ย  Place the bottom bun on the cutting board or plate. Top with a slice of cheddar cheese, cheesy patty, bacon, onions, pickles and lettuce. If you are a beef lover like us, add 2 cheesy patties to make double beef burger.
  • Spread ketchup and mustard on the top bun.ย ย
  • Place the top bun on top of the toppings.
  • Serve immediately hot with French fries, sprite and barbecue sauce. Enjoy!

Notes

We highly recommend to use 80/20 ground beef ( 80 % lean and 20 % fat) for the best results.
Don’t skip toasting the buns as this adds so much flavor and prevents the buns from becoming soggy.
