Ingredients

  • 2 pounds 80-85 % lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium white onion finely diced
  • 1 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 2 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon meatloaf seasoning see recipe, or use 1 packet store-bought seasoning mix
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

For The Meatloaf Glaze

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x5 loaf pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onion, bread crumbs, broth ( or water), eggs, Worcestershire sauce, meatloaf seasoning,  salt and pepper. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared pan. Alternatively, you can transfer the mixture to a baking sheet and shape it into a loaf of similar size to a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • Bake the meatloaf at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes. Remove from the oven and spread the ketchup on top. Return to the oven and continue cooking for an additional 10-20 minutes. The meatloaf is fully cooked when its internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

If you lack meatloaf seasoning packets or specific spices for homemade seasoning, you can use these measurements as a base: 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon paprika (or smoked paprika), 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning,  ½ teaspoon ground black pepper, and ½ teaspoon onion powder.
