Description

Spice up your appetizers with Jalapeno Popper Wontons! Crispy wonton wrappers filled with a creamy, spicy jalapeno and cheese mixture. Perfect for parties or a tasty snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3-4 large jalapeno peppers, finely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
  • 5-6 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  •  1 tablespoon fresh cilantro or parsley, finely chopped
  • ½ cup shredded Monterrey Jack cheese or Cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon  EACH: garlic powder, onion powder, cumin powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 large egg, plus one tablespoon of water whisked together
  • 19 wonton wrappers, store-bought or homemade
  • Cooking spray or oil for brushing

Serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F. Spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped JALAPENOS, CRUMBLED BACON, the softened CREAM CHEESE, CILANTRO, MONTERREY JACK CHEESE, GARLIC POWDER, ONION POWDER, CUMIN and a pinch of SALT. Mix until combined.
  • Assemble the Wontons: Place the WONTON WRAPPERS on a clean surface.
  • Spoon about 2 teaspoons of the jalapeno cheese mixture into the center of each wrapper.
  • To fold your wontons, dip your finger in the whisked EGG WASH and rub it around the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally and press the edges to seal. (You can also use circular wrappers for this recipe.)
  • Air Fry the Wontons: Place the wontons in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they don’t touch each other. Spray them with cooking oil. Air fry for about 8-10 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy, flipping them halfway through the cooking time and spraying them again with cooking spray. (You might need to do this in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.)
  • Serve while hot. They pair wonderfully with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • To store, place them in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator. They should stay fresh for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, preheat your air fryer to 350°F. Place the wontons in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Heat for about 1-2 minutes, or until they are thoroughly warmed and regain their crispiness.
