Description
These copycat Popeyes cajun fries are the best homemade French fries ever! They are super crispy, perfectly seasoned with homemade Cajun mix and very addicting.
Ingredients
For the French Fries:
- Large Russet potatoes (washed)-3
- Vegetable oil for frying
For Popeyes Cajun Seasoning:
- Smoked paprika- 1 teaspoon
- Cayenne pepper- 1/4-1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic powder-3/4 teaspoon
- Dried oregano-1/2 teaspoon
- Salt-3/4 teaspoon or as needed
Instructions
Prepare the Potatoes:
- Slice the potatoes into 1/2 inch thick sticks. To achieve even thickness, use a French fry cutter.
- Soak the potato sticks in iced water for at least 1 hour or overnight if time allows. This helps to remove the starch and makes French fries extra crispy.
- Rinse the fries 2-3 time with cold water, transfer to a plate lined with paper towel; pat dry and keep aside.
Cajun Seasoning:
- In a small bowl mix together the smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, dried oregano and salt. Keep aside.
Popeyes Cajun Fries:
- Heat oil in a large pan or deep fryer to 300ºF (150º). Using a slotted spoon, put the potatoes into the oil. Fry them in batches, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Transfer on the paper towels. Repeat with the remaining fries.
- Increase the heat to 400º F (200ºC) and fry each batch a second time or until crispy and golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Sprinkle with Cajun seasoning right away. Enjoy with spicy mayo, Wingstop Ranch or ketchup!
