Best peanut butter balls recipe. These peanut butter balls are perfect for those who need a healthy, hearty, handy boost of energy! In my world, every day is a perfect day for whipping up delicious bites for family and friends, or just for myself – when I’m in need of some personal tender, loving care. Sometimes, I’ll go all out and cook a four course dinner like roast chicken, creamy mashed potatoes, arugula salad, finished with a chocolate-y version of my peanut butter balls recipe. Sure, there are certain meals and desserts that go hand in hand with tradition or holidays – like oven-roasted turkey for Thanksgiving or roast lamb for the December holidays – but desserts, well, as far as I’m concerned, they are a year-round tradition in my book. And if I want them, I shall have them.
The thing about dessert these days is that most recipes for them have entered the modern age of vegan-no sugar-less fat-energy bite ness. And we should all be seriously grateful for that bit of evolution. Not only has our new thinking about desserts transformed waist lines and all around healthiness, but it’s reminded us all that desserts are the kind of temptation that can’t, and shouldn’t, be ignored. And I mean that in a very, sinful way.
To be honest, the only thing that stops me from baking a dessert every single day (I do try and honor my sweet tooth as much as possible, against my dentist’s wishes) is the amount of time it can take to get all my ingredients together and prepare my tasty delights. It always just seems easier to go to my local bakery and pick up my favorite cravings. Now, I’m all for supporting local businesses as much as possible, but there are just certain things I know I can make and won’t take much time at all. All I have to do is pull out my trusty, no-time-at-all recipe index cards, and my peanut butter balls recipe just falls on my lap.
So, I have in mind to pull together one of my all-time, no-fuss, baking favorites for a casual dinner I’m hosting this weekend: my melt in your mouth peanut butter balls recipe. Once the holidays are over in December, I can’t stop thinking about two things: all the over-the-top love and kindness shared with family and friends, and my crazy, delicious, peanut butter balls recipe.
By now, you know I adore cooking simple and delicious meals; bites that take no time at all and wow appetites. And my peanut butter balls recipe does all of that and then some. With no more than 5 ingredients, no baking time, and a few soft rules to follow - my recipe will satisfy any sweet tooth and not break your budget doing so.
So, let’s get to it!
INGREDIENTS
As I mentioned, there just a handful of ingredients you’ll need to gather for my peanut butter balls recipe: creamy peanut butter, salted butter, powdered sugar, and some vanilla extract.
If you happen to have a peanut allergy, don’t worry: you can substitute peanut butter for other nutty goodies such as almond or macadamia nut butter.
It’s entirely possible to devour peanut butter balls just as they are. But what I love to add, and are so incredibly popular among my family and friends, are dark chocolate to dip these yummy bites in.
There probably isn’t a more beloved combination than peanut butter and chocolate – just survey your local market’s candy aisle and you’ll see rows of tasty treats that agree: Kit Kat’s, Reese’s Pieces Butter Cups, are just a few. While I highly recommend going that route, feel free to take as many liberties with your peanut butter balls as you like.
PREPARATION
To begin preparing your peanut butter balls, mix peanut butter, melted butter and vanilla extract in a bowl. You’ll then need to gradually add the powdered sugar until you have managed to create a large ball that holds well together.
At this point, there are a few things to consider when making my peanut butter balls recipe. Keep these in mind:
- Refrigeration is key in my making peanut butter balls recipe. So, you’ll want to make sure there is enough room in your fridge
- Once your large dough ball is ready, cover or wrap it in plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes, or until they manage to become firm. You can also cover it tightly and leave it in the fridge for up to 2 days if you are planning ahead.
- Work your large ball into 1 inch balls, and then again, refrigerate them for another 15-20 minutes.
- If you are working in a warm environment or working with warm hands, both of these conditions can soften your peanut butter balls. You may need to refrigerate them a few more times to make sure they retain a firm consistency. Also, adding additional powdered sugar can also help, just a little extra at a time.
- If you are like me and just can’t wait to get them dipped into some dark chocolate, choose your favorite kind – whether they are dark chocolate chips are fancier kinds such as Lindts 85% dark chocolate – and gently melt them over a stove top.
- Using a toothpick or a long, wooden skewer, pinch the peanut balls and insert them into the melted chocolate, one at a time. Gently shake them so all the excess chocolate can drip off the peanut butter balls.
- Once done, refrigerate the peanut butter balls until you are ready to serve.
