Jump to Recipe

These oven baked chicken wings are perfect game day food with an awesome combination of crispiness and spiciness in every bite! It's the best wings EVER.

oven baked chicken wingsToday’s recipe is a healthy alternative to an old favorite. Who doesn’t have a grandmother or aunt or mother with a famous friend chicken recipe? But even though they’re delicious, we all know that frying up the chicken is one of the fastest ways to make a healthy meat into an unhealthy meal. So let’s talk about oven baked chicken wings.
oven baked chicken wingsWhen you get done with my oven baked chicken wing recipe, you’re going to be astounded. You see, I have a secret. It’s a secret that will allow you to receive the healthy benefits of baked chicken wings while enjoying the crispy, crunchy texture of fried. Sound impossible? Here’s the secret.
Baking powder.Chicken wings
That’s right. Baking powder. It’s not magic, just a little bit of applied (but boring to explain) science. Still, you’ll think you’re some kind of wizard the first time you oven bake chicken wings so crispy you can hear it when you touch them. They even look like they’re fried.
And are they delicious? You bet! The mix of spices and seasonings I use will put even that grinning colonel to shame. As usual, I encourage experimentation with my recipes after you’ve mastered them. This is the place where you can tinker with abandon.
Add some cayenne pepper, cumin, and chili powder for a more southwestern flavor profile. Garlic powder is always a win. Ginger can make for a very interesting addition to any other spices you use. Basil, paprika, nutmeg, and even some less often used spices like mace can do wonderful things to your chicken. Honestly, you could probably have these chicken wings every night for a month and never repeat a flavor profile.
Before anyone starts worrying about the taste of baking powder, don’t be concerned. Once the chicken wings go through my meticulous baking process, there isn’t even a hint of baking powder flavor left behind. Only the crispy feel of “fried” chicken and the delicious taste of your favorite seasonings.
As always, use the comments to tell me how the process worked for you. Also share your favorite seasoning mixes for chicken. Even better, tell me what kind of sides you like to serve with a dish like this. It might give me some ideas for future recipes! I look forward to hearing from you and, as always, thanks for cooking with me!
