What is Matcha?
Matcha is a type of tea powder that has a bright green color. And matcha means “powdered tea”. It is made by grinding young tea leaves. Nowadays it is very easy to find 100 % pure matcha powder in big supermarkets or online. Matcha is costly because leaves are grown in shades that results in better flavor and then young leaves are hand selected. It is expensive in Japan too.
But it is worth to add it to your weekly menu. It has so many health benefits. It helps to prevent heart diseases, cancer and diabetes. If you have never purchased it before, it is time to give a try.
Matcha Cookies
Matcha cookies are very crisp, full of amazing matcha flavor and really delicious. They are hard to beat, guys! They will melt in your mouth and you will crave them again and again. Best part is that the recipe requires only 4 ingredients and you can prepare dough a few months ahead of baking and use it once you need it.
I love everything about this dough: matcha, buttery taste and how easy it comes together. Simply throw all the ingredients into the bowl and mix.
The recipe calls for unsalted butter, make sure to bring butter to room temperature before you combine it with sugar. I have nothing against salted butter, but different brands have different amount of salt. And it will be a real challenge to control saltiness in cookies.
Chilling Matcha Cookies Dough
Once the dough is ready, form a log, wrap it in a plastic wrap and put in the freezer for 15 minutes to chill. Don’t skip this step. Chilling helps with slicing the dough log, improves the flavor and the cookies will hold their shape better in the oven.
Have you ever made butter cookies? The process is similar to it.
- Combine all the ingredients using a hand mixer or a stand mixer.
- Chill the dough.
- Slice the dough to make cookies, transfer onto a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 350 F/ 175 C.
The entire process takes not more than 30 minutes.
