Lemon Chicken Orzo soup

This hearty Lemon  Chicken Orzo Soup is cozy, quick and easy to make!  Loaded with tender chicken, lemony flavors and orzo pasta.  A comfort food at its best! Perfect for lunch or dinner!


  • Chicken thighs/drumsticks ( skinless and boneless)-  1 pound ( 500 g)
  • Vegetable oil- 3 tablespoons
  • Black pepper- 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt -1 teaspoon or to taste
  • Onion ( finely chopped)-1
  • Garlic cloves ( minced)- 1 tablespoon
  • Large carrots ( chopped)- 2
  • Chicken stock - 6 cups
  • Bay leaves- 2
  • Orzo pasta-3/4 cup
  • Lemon juice of 1- 2 lemons ( depends on your taste)
  • Italian herbs- 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh dill leaves (chopped)- 2 tablespoons


  • Heat vegetable oil in a large pot. Add the chicken, season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 10 minutes or until nicely browned over medium high heat. Then add the chopped onion, garlic and carrots. Cook  until tender, about 3-4 minutes. 
  • Pour in the chicken stock and  lemon juice.  Add the bay leaves and Italian herbs. Bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat to medium and allow to simmer  for 5 minutes. Remove the chicken and shred it into your preferred size. Return back to the soup.
  • Stir in orzo and cook until tender, about 10-14 minutes. Adjust lemon juice, salt and pepper. Garnish with dill leaves. Enjoy!
